On the road in Burma

Burma's main tourist attractions (Yangon, Inle Lake and Bagan) are spread out over hundreds of miles of potholed and dusty "highways", winding roads making switchbacks up and down jungle-clad hills, and delays while your bus stops to hose down the overheated engine or brake pads.

This is not a country to get anywhere fast.

But snacks are never very far away, and at least you've got your own seat on your coach (unlike some of the locals on the cheaper, overcrowded minibuses).

Hungry? You can buy noodles, rice, crisps, biscuits, fresh or dried fruit, hard boiled quail eggs, and loads more from the sellers that hang around bus stops and train stations

The seats on the roof look decidedly unsafe....
